Taking a semester off...

They may not have a problem, but if I was you I would take one class that semester like Role or something light. But the place I applied to said as long as you finish in 6 years they dont care.

I agree with serenitylove14 on this.

Too much stress to do full semester. I also seen several np schools state 5/6 years for completion.

If you apply and just take one class , you may feel better knowing your accepted and on your way to your goal .

I'm only in the research phase now and am interested in the np role if I begin changing careers.

At UT Arlington, I was told that the administration will grant you "two long semesters" to take time off once already starting the program. The semesters do not have to be taken consecutively.

I'd make sure the school you want has a flexible program. My school requires a number of courses in sequence (quite common) and they aren't offered in both fall and spring semesters. So if I were to skip a term, I'd set things back by a year. And once you're really rolling, your brain might not deal with remembering everything after a break. I'm in the first clinical term and wish pharm weren't a faint memory from a year ago! Even things from Health Assessment last term are sometimes fuzzy.

I too got married in grad school - had a destination wedding in my first semester in fact. We were gone a week, counted our week at the resort as a honeymoon, came back and I put my nose to the grindstone. I cleared it with my professors at the start of the term and they were pretty flexible - I didn't have anything due in that period. Was it fun? Not so much. But I didn't want to wait on the wedding, didn't want to wait on grad school, and in the end it's our day-to-day lives that matter. If I'd been able to start in the spring without consequences I might have.

Just make sure you know what you're getting into.
