Taking the NCLEX

Hello all.. I am taking the boards in 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone could give me some helpful hints. I took a review class through my school and it seemed very basic.. none of the information was given about specifics. Is this something I should be concerned about??

Also, rumors about the new format have me worried. What is the deal with fill in the blank and visual type questions? Do they count towards the pass/fail criteria? Or are they more for research purposes to see how people did?

Hi.. I am also taking the NCLEX soon, actually on Feb 2nd (I need the month to work questions) ;)

As far as the new format, I was told by the NCLEX people not to freak out about them. If you for some reason had to answer all 265 questions they said you might have a total of 10 new types of questions. As of now, they aren't a big percentage of the test, they are counted, but there is just a small quanity of them.

I also took a NCLEX review course, ours was done through Drexel University. It was actually a pretty good course.

I give this speech to every graduate nurse in our facility but none really believe me till after they sit for NCLEX, then they come back and tell me how right I was: You KNOW the content. The test is designed for people who have never practiced as a nurse before. The questions are designed to evaluate how well you can analyze a situation and prioritize. The patient always comes first in NCLEX-Land. Use your resouces to extract the stem of the question and discard the distractors. But relax! You really do know it. Most people pass. Even if you consider yourself just "average" in intelligence, the statistics are in your favor.

Go to http://www.ncsbn.org. They are the people who create NCLEX and have some helpful hints (plus rumoring squashing info).
