Summer Extern in the ER

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I am a student nurse in my 3rd semester of an ADN program. I have applied for an extern position over the summer in the ER and I have an interview on Tuesday. I was wondering has anyone else been an extern in the ER and if so do you have any tips on potential Qs that may be asked in the interview or anything I should read. I really want this position, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks yorkshiresrose

I did my externship in the ER, I loved it!

I pretty did everything, mixing meds, ekg, IM injections, IVP, hung IVs, catheter, assessments, discharged pts, and cpr. I learned so much, I had a great nurse too. Good luck to you, you will learn so much there.

My friend from NS was an extern in the ER. They asked her general questions like why do you want to be a nurse, why the ER, why this hospital, etc. ER is a fantastic way to gain experience because they are very "relaxed" and let you do a lot of different things

Specializes in ED.

I also did an extern in the er and LOVED it. I loved the hands on fast action of the ED. I learned and saw so much. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and yes I want to be an ER nurse.
