Hello, Nurses!
After 10 years of bedside nursing I am returning to school for my masters. I have applied to study for my Women's Health Nurse Practitioner license. However, I am finding that as I age, many patients are beginning to talk about menopause and they are struggling to find a practitioner that specializes in this area. It seems that conception and delivery are the focus for women's health and menopause is just an afterthought. I'm wondering, are there university programs that you've heard of that focus on menopause? Is there someone out there that is well known as a specialist that the medical community recognizes, who might also be either researching or teaching? Thanks in advance.

There are people out there. I was at a practice yesterday that deals with bioidentical hormones although there wasn't an APRN there, but I know that there is room for them. Check out this clinic in Maine that is run solely by APRNs and deals with menopause and older women's health. This is a niche that really interests me too, although I'm in school doing an acute care NP track. In the future I'd love to open my own practice dealing in menopause, endometriosis and hormone imbalance.

Just wanted to say I applaud your focus on this important area!
There is one GYN practice in my area that I am aware of which focuses on women in mid-life and beyond - no OB.
