How to study effectively? or how can i do better in tests? I didnt do so hot in my first fundamentals test. the tests usually covers around 15 chapters in 50 questions. i read the book, i dont like to highlight textbook, but i do take notes during lecture.

it could be that sometimes i read but i dont comprehend cause my mind is just exhausted cause of all the pages i have to read.

and as for the test, its hard to get that critical thinking right. cause i get questions wrong because i either dont think critically, or i over-think about the question.

so, can you guys help me find a better study method? i just want to at least pass. im kind of worried.

thanks, in advance

I know you said you don't like to highlight bit I highlight a lot in my book! That way, when I read the chapters for the second time, I make sure to pay extra close attention to those parts. I also take notes on what I read in the book. There is SO MUCH in the book that isn't covered in lecture.

I also have Fundamental Success which is an NCLEX style book that I answer questions out of. VERY helpful.

highlighting doesnt work for me. cause if i did, i would be coloring the whole book with my highlighter. lol

try to separate the least important materials and focus more on concepts you don't understand.

If the professor talks about it in class or it's on the powerpoint.. highlight it. If it has to do with what a nurse is supposed to do in a situation, highlight it (Interventions). Think of it as an exercise in critical thinking... is this something that I have to know as a nurse(?). Pay attention to boxes in your text. Record the lectures so you can revisit them again. Practice doing questions.. all the time. Get a couple different books, like Fundamentals Success, Reviews and Rationales, Saunders etc and just practice doing those questions. Read the rationales, because you will learn from the rationales why that answer is more correct than the others. Get into a study group as well.. It's worth it. I think the hardest part for a lot of students is to adjust to the type of questions on the exams.
