Wouldnt it make more sense to pick a study partner that you go to school with?? I had 2 great study partners and we worked well to gather, I have also had my fair share of study partners who were horrible and hurt my efforts more so than helped.
You need to find someone that is going to bring as much to the table as you do.
I agree with you in some respects..I do agree when working with a group you need people who is going to bring just as much as you do to the table..From experience there is always one person who is destructive to the group and sometimes you can't help it..But tmay not apply here. I don't mind someone who is weaker being in the group, once they can make a valuable contribution. We are all here to lean and most importantly help each other..
Second, I don't think you necessarily have to be from the same school, it would help, but the systems are the same and meds should be the same in nursing..By this I mean, if we are studying the cardiovascular system, it should be the same, we might have different books, but general it is the same..Besides some people have a better way of understanding things and can explain it better..or by two people working together, they can figure out somethings together..
There are eight major categories in nursing that the nursing boards test you on. I think it can and would be beneficial to sit and discuss things in a group. Maybe the nursing school some went to might have thought them a little trick on how to remember something or vice versa.Everyone have their style of learning, so in the end you have to figure out what works best for YOU!
I hope I made some sense.
When you say "Studying the cardio vascular system" and it should be the same----do you know how big that is????
My point in studying with a classmate, is nursing school barely scratches the surface of nursing. Your teacher will not cover everything in the cardiovas system--not even close. So depending on what your teacher lectures on is what she will test on. Every one knows to be able to sit for boards you must 1st pass the class---my thought was 2 pairs of eyes/ears are better than 1. You will have a better chace of getting the passing grades by studying the material presented in class and you have a better chance of grasping that material if you tackel it with a class mate who may have heard something you did not, or may understand something better and vice versa.
Best of luck--what ever method works for you is great, I was just trying to add a suggestion. Nursing school is hard enough and i dont want to see anyone make it harder.
I just re-read your post----are you wanting to study for boards or a class??? Boards makes more sense to have a study partner with and they dont have to come from your school.
My friend and I worked our way through the priortization and delagation book. we meet twice a week for an hour-started on page 1 and finished 3 weeks later.
I also did thousands of Nclex test questions from Saunders/Davis/Mosby and ATI. She did none.
We both passed in 75 questions.
So what ever method you use, as long as you feel confident I am sure you will be fine.
I am talking about the boards finding a study partner for. I am finished with school..Thanks for all your imput! Points are well taken.

Please be very careful when trying to select a study partner from anyplace. You are posting on a site that is viewed all over the world and not necessarily by nurses only.
Just be very careful is all that I can, and not say enough.

i would love to study with you but unfortuantely im waaaayyy in cali :)
like in school, we had study groups--and there were pros and cons, i belive that one has to study by themselves THEN goto a study group to emphasize the material.
I wish you all the luck on your next test, im still waiting for my ATT from the BRN then ill scedule with pearson view for early may.
