how to study for NCLEX?

Published

I am in my last semester of nursing and I am at a lost to what will help prepare me for my boards. Does anyone have any resources that helped them prepare for their boards that you could share with me?:nurse:

Good luck

This topic is discussed over and over on the NCLEX forum. Most people do as many questions as possible and study the rationales. They use the Saunders Comprehensive Review, Linda LaCharity's book on prioritization, and the Kaplan review book for test strategies.

Exam Cram is the best. First it is written by pearsonvue, who are the people who write the NCLEX. Second, it includes a CD that tests you exactly the way the NCLEX does, by learning what you know and testing you on what you don't know, until you know it. Third, it reviews everything in a clear concise way. Fourth, it gives you tips on how to answer questions when you don't know the answers. For example, if there are two answers that are opposites of each other--it's one of them. Good luck

I did as many questions as I could. Think it ended up being between 4500 and 4600. Reviewed the rationale on ones that I got wrong and made sure I understood why it was wrong. Reviewed the topics I struggled with in school.

Just a correction, the book Exam Cram is not written by Pearson, and the NCLEX is DEFINTELY not written by Pearson. The book was written by three experienced nurses. Pearson is just the testing company that administers the test, though they do seem to endorse the book because their logo is on it.

I think doing as many questions as you can and reviewing content that you struggled with is great advice. Also, take the day before your test off from studying to relax if you can. Remember you can take breaks (though it is considered part of your available testing time), and I've heard there are headphones handy that are helpful in blocking out noise - I know I'm one of those people that gets annoyed by the sound of people coughing and sniffling and cracking knuckles or whatever.

Good luck! You can do it!

thanks a bunch for the info
