student looking into an ED position..interview friday =)

I am currently a junior nursing student..I have been working as a CNA on a med/surg floor for a year, to gain experience with patient interaction.. However there is an opening in the ED for a emergency tech (junior and senior nursing students can get the job w/o a CNA or EMT license). From what I hear as an ED tech you are allowed to do more hands on work with patients then a typical CNA does. I have an interview on friday and am VERY excited..Applying for the job was a spur of the moment thing, I had previously never thought about an ED job but now that I applied I think it will be a good way to experience a new type of nursing.. Anyways, any advice for me during my interview??

Thanks!

Speaking from personal experience, you have a chance in a lifetime!!!! I did the same thing my last semester; you do indeed do more hands-on stuff. I was allowed to do anything that was not intrusive so I got to do a lot of direct pt care.

Advice: if this is the type of nursing you want to do, make sure the NM knows that.

Good luck!

thanks so much.. yeah i hadnt really thought about ED nursing before because I work on a med/surg floor and in nursing school there is no rotation in the ED...So this would be a wonderful opportunity for me to see what it is like...

I got the job :-) Starting next weekend

I'm starting an internship in an ED after this semester ends. I am SO excited and terrified at the same time!! This is an area of nursing I've known I would be interested in since I started taking prereqs.

I love looking through these threads for little words of advice that I can take with me when I start in a few short weeks!!
