The first part of this message contains the essence of the message I found on my answering machine from my supervisor when I got up this evening.
The second part of the message is verbatim. But I'll get to that.
Whenever I leave a message for another professional regarding a patient, I never give their name. I will leave a message , say for a psychiatrist like, "The patient in room 101 is manifesting psychosis, having behaviors, and threatening staff. Please return my call at your earliest convenience".
I was told years ago that a patient's name should not be left on voicemail. Someone else not involved with the patient's care may be privy to the confidential information. My wife could have easily heard the message. Is this a HIPAA violation?
Regarding the second part of the message: I don't know why in the Sam Hill my supervisor would leave me a message about the unit doors being painted.
However, I did notice!

HIPAA: Yes....unless your name is No One You Want To Talk To, in which case you and all your friends get a free pass!
Doors: Goofy attempt to let you know you're not in trouble.

Maybe the doors message was to let you know that you would not get wet paint on your cloths.
Is this a HIPAA violation?
HIPAA: Yes....
Thanks for the reinforcement, JKL33!
Yeah, Hppygr8ful. That's what I thought!
