Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2018

Hey Everyone,

Now that the deadline for the class of 2018 Basic BSN program at Stony Brook University is coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to and for all applicants. I hope there isn't already a thread made already because I searched thoroughly but could not find one. If you have any questions or just want to talk feel free to comment. Best of luck to all of you on your applications!

Thank God. I got in, BEYOND HAPPY. Congratulations to those who got in, and to those who didn't, don't ever Lose hope. It feels like a dream but im happy im awake.

for those who were accepted...did you look at the "Newly Admitted Student Document Checklist"? Am i the only one who didn't know about being CPR certified and now has to scramble to find a class?!

Finding a class isn't too difficult don't worry too much. It says it on the website where it lists all of the prerequisites but I wasn't aware you had to get it before classes start. If worse comes to worst, I'm actually receiving my BLS instructor certification so I could teach people before classes start hopefully

Don't worry, you have plenty of time. Do you live on the island? Google statacls... I took.mine in Patchogue through the red Cross, pretty sure most employers require it to be done with the red Cross or at least in person, not online

Where did you see that on SOLAR? What specific CPR certification do we need, BLS and CPR for the professional rescuer? Thanks.

It's on the website with the info for applying under additional requirements. You need bls with aed so that includes CPR

It can vary, I have people in my class that heard a day before orientation so it varies a great deal. Hang on, don"t lose hope!

You've been extremely helpful on this forum, if you get a chance, would you please post what classes you had for each of the four semesters? Thank you in advance. And anything else you would like to share about the program would be very much appreciated.

I agree, thank you for the info. In addition to black_labador's question, when did you have your orientation? Again, thank you so much!

Oh boy, this is taking me back a looobg time lol. Orientation for us was at the end of august, a week before classes and lasted for 3 days, 8-4pm or so. Classes will vary for you guys because like I said before, they are constantly adjusting the curriculum but here are the classes I took:

1st semester: PAI, Health assessment, med math, and role development.

2nd semester: PA2, research, pathophysiology, and Psychiatric Nursing

3rd semester: pharmacology, obstetrics, med-surg 1, community health.

4th semester (currently): pediatrics, med surg 2, and capstone yayyyy!

*This advice is my personal opinion sonplease treat it as such; dont bother buying textbooks unless you learnby reading. Books that are required are as follows: med-math, pa1, and role development (you could get away with renting med math and role but pa1 is needed to do online assignments if i remember correctly).

Thank you so much! Also, how frequent were your clinicals throughout each semester?

Of the 71 credits we are required to take, 2 credits are listed under electives. Is that a nursing elective at Stony Brook or can we use another class we have previously taken at another college to satisfy this 2 credit elective requirement?
