STICU or ER?

I’m a level 2 trauma hospital, would you choose to take a job in ER or a job in Surgical trauma ICU? I’m interested in trauma. I feel like I would see it both places but I don’t know where I’d get the most experience at. I feel like ER I could or not could get trauma patients depending on rotations but it is fast paced and I like that. But I feel like trauma ICU I’m guaranteed trauma patients at some point. If I wanted to eventually be in a level 1 trauma center which experience would be better? (They don’t have a trauma section)

You probably also need to consider if you want to be involved in the rapid stabilization of a "fresh" trauma patient vs the long term stabilization of a patient on the floor.

That will probably help drive your decision more than anything..

Couldn't agree more. My choice is fresh Trauma coming in the door where the alert has been called and the "symphony" begins.
