Starting a nursing career

Hi,

I just applied as a trainee in a tertiary hospital in which I paid 3,500 pesos. It is an 8 week program. 2 weeks didactic training and 6 weeks clinical duty. After that If we pass the final evaluation we can volunteer in their institution w/c is inlcusive of daily allowance. And if there will be a slot for a new staff nurse then there might be a chance that we may be regularized.

I would like to ask if We need to go the same training if were going to apply on a different hospital and Is there always a fee for training in hospitals?

Thank you. :)

I was in a 6-month training program by a tertiary government hospital and I have not paid them a single cent. Sure, they required a new uniform but that is less than the Php3500 you doled out.

lol. thats great for you. well its already been paid thou i just hope this will lead to regularization. :)

i havent heard of free trainings even volunteerism has a fee

Unfortunately it has now. It was brought up to senate last year. Then it was stopped for around September last year. Now the deal is if the hospital is certified then they can charge a fee for training. Thats as far as I know... :S

well at least they are willing to give daily allowance:twocents:

Hey guys, i'm having a hard time to understand the term "TRAININGS"... I know the difference between the word TRAINING an VOLUNTEERISM, for volunteerism is actually for free and at the end of the volunteer work, you'll get a certificate of volunteerism...But for TRAININGS (excluding IVT trainings), especially residency trainings, my friend told me that residency training is just for once..For example: if you have your basic skills training at a certain hospital for 6 mons ( yet they managed not to hire you, so your option is to transfer to another hospital) you cannot have an another basic skills training in a different hospital??? Is that true??? pls somebody tell me the trth behind this especiall for newly RNs like me... TIA! :specs:

@suswot.. hi..

You can have another BST as much as you could..

But the thing here is, are you always willing to pay for the training?

Mind you, you are already deserving to receive wage for your skills.

Thanks for the reply they.see! I thought that BST trainings is only for once. Hmm. My mother told me that these trainings especially paid trainings/false volunteerism were NOT NECESSARY/REQUIREMENT for us to be hired as staff nurses... but other people said that TRAININGS/VOLUNTEERISM is an advantage for you to be hired but it doesn't guarantee you to be hired as well.. Is it that really advantageous or futile? I'm really having a dilemma right now for which path i would take in (if i'm going to pursue a volunteer work/training at a certain tertiary hospital OR i will rather be a clinic nurse/ community health nurse/ OR if there's really NO CHOICE for me, I will be working in a call center for healthcare accounts :-(

Ops.. Not all trainings are not necessary for us suswot.. It depends on the area..

Generally, IVT training and BLS as i noticed are always requirements for staff nurse position.. ACLS, ECG, dialysis (sometimes) will add to your edge.

While, BST and volunteerism will not guarantee you to be hired but then it will boost your confidence. These will let you see the difference between realities and ideals to ph setting.

Your choice I think will be depend on your financial status, If still your mother wants to support you for these trainings, why not choknat? Grab it. Be patient in your career. I can tell you that, as I've been through with that already, i've been impatient with my career before and been saw the result.

As what I am feeling right now I think your great. You are searching for an answer. Just focus on what you really want and remember patience is a virtue. Just be patient. But never ever forget to upgrade your self too.

There is no problem whether you'll accept clinic nor community health nurse as long as you want this stuff, your wage is fair and felt satisfied in your job.

In call center? I believe that If your heart made to be in healing profession, after months/years of working there you will still longing for caring job.

Thanks for the great reply!! they.see! :-)

I have my plans with me for this upcoming few weeks/months.. First, I should have claimed my license, board rating and certf. of passing first on November 15 so that I can enroll myself in any ANSAP-accredited hospitals offering basic IVT training, Basic ECG,BLS, ACLS, PALS, basic IE & suturing of perineal lacerations and any other BASICS... hehe... so that I have something to put in my resume and of course to increase my competencies. Then, I will look for hospitals offering residency trainings without paying them if possible. At this point in time, I know that many hospitals offering BST were closing their BST programs but I will never lose hope to pursue my career in nursing..

Indeed, I have problems regarding financial status ( I live here in Meycauayan City and it's going to be a LOT OF SACRIFICE for my parents if i'm going to have these trainings coz' at the very first place, i'm not yet earning money through these trainings plus the need for a transportation fee of at least 150php a day :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:) That's why I prefer Call Center work as an OPTION for me to have my own allowance and to help them as well..even for only 6mons-1 yr...Moreover, I heard that a call center experience is not futile for us nurses. Aside from having an improved proficiency in english, there is a nursing specialty in US which is called TELEHEALTH Nursing if i'm not mistaken and they require you to have at least 1 yr call center experience. Hmm... If only I could work as a nurse in the morning and a CC agent at night, why not? But if I will do that, the health status of me and my patient will be compromised..:nurse:

Thanks for the compliment!:nurse::nurse: I'm really searching for an answer especially in these times wherein crisis is everywhere to be found and inevitable. Many of my friends and colleagues who is in the same situation like me (a newly registered nurse) were losing hope to be in the nursing industry... some of them are unemployed nurses like me. Others pursue a non-nursing job like working in call center as CSR's, hotel receptionists, etcs. We feel sorry for ourselves and to our parents as well.. I feel helpless if somebody asks me of my opinion about this situation that we are having right now, on which path we should take.. But at the end of the day, what important most is that we should never lose hope! for we know that all of this is just a TRIAL to be overcome, an obstacle made to be broken..

oh sorry patience* is a virtue hehehe.

Just a tip for IVT and other trainings, request for your schedule asap or make your name on their list, because when the institution already announced that a certain training is currently open too many nurses are applying for this.

Your plan is adoring. Just don't forget to save money and forget those funky businesses. hehe. On the other hand, while you are already working in CC, ask for leave and attend your training, you're hitting two birds here. Actually, I don't have idea about this telehealth nursing until you've mentioned it maybe because I am no longer interested in US due to recession. I am being pessimistic with US matter but for me US now is impossible although nothing is impossible. :uhoh3:

Your right. Our economy is getting poorer before PH is better than Korea but nowadays their economy is booming.

I was disheartened to hear about your friends and colleagues, I remember an American nurse said 'why do their government cannot regulate this huge number of nurses'. Thereafter, one pinoy said 'Regulating is the weakest part of our government'. Sorry for being OT just want to express it. Anyway, goodluck to your career. cheers!
