when have you started applying?

Hey,

When are you guys starting to apply for your first job as an RN? I'm graduating in December and I'm wondering if I should start applying before graduation, or after I'm officially licensed. Let me know what your stories are!

I would start applying for a patient care tech, or nurses aide, in any open position. Getting hired now will save you the grief of not having a foot in the door once your other 50 classmates graduate.

I agree with 8flood8. My classmates who were working in the hospitals before graduation had jobs immediately while the rest of us were scrambling. Even a UA/HUC or monitor tech position will give you that leg up.

Well I already have a job as a patient care tech, I've been working in hospitals throughout all my schooling. I would like to get a nursing job, however, in a different area and I was wondering when I should start applying for RN positions.I'm sure I could get an RN position at the hospital where I'm currently working, I'm just hoping to move. So I'm guessing I should start applying before I graduate?

Start applying now. Try to get 3 letters of recommendation from your clinical instructors to submit along with your resume. Don't delay. One of the major hospital systems in my area started interviewing in February, for positions starting in june. And don't count out the hospital where you are working... they may be the only one willing to pay to hire a GN.
