St. Xavier BSN

Published

Just wanted to know more information regarding St.Xaviers BSN program.

If there are any recent grads willing to share information regarding the ins and outs of the program, it would be greatly appreciated.

How are the instructors?

Clinical sites?

Do they offer SimLab?

Intern or Externship opportunities?

Summer courses?

The instructors were good. The program is pretty time consuming. 90% of clinical sites were really good.... you go everywhere so have a reliable car...university of chicago, northwestern, christ, silver cross, etc. There is Sim lab starting Soph II through senior II. Sim man doesn't always work lol but I mostly practiced assessments on friends. Nursing resource lab is great. No formal internships/externships but you apply directly to the hospitals for those anyways. They often alert students about CNA or caregiver opportunities in the community. Summer classes are available but usually not once you begin clinicals.

I currently attend SXU. The instructors are awesome. They are always willing to help and if you need references some of them will even give their cell phone numbers. There is a nice variety of clinical sites, the experience will depend on the hospital. Sim Lab is mandatory for some of the practicum classes. They have nice little dummies. They don't set you up with externships but that is not really their responsibility. I actually did just finish an externship over the summer. Some of the hospitals in the area offer them, all you have to do is apply! Some summer courses are offered; however, once clinicals are started its mainly nursing electives. I love SXU. I feel that I am truly learning a lot. The work is tough but you get out of it what you put into it! good luck!

There is another school that I am considering that has an internship built into the program, that's why I asked if the school had those type of connections.

Also, I wanted to know if they had senior practicums where you are allowed to explore a nursing specialty of your choosing.
