Srarting ER position

Hi, I have finally landed my dream job and am starting an ER transition program (my past experience includes emt, paramedic, and burn/trauma, med/surg).

I'm both excited and terrified. Can anyone tell me of a good pocket book I can get to use as a resource? I know I'll likely be getting alot of material in orientation, but too much material probably can't hurt. Thanks.

Thank you! I'll see if I can order it

I personally don't find pocket books all that useful. When I carried written resources with me on shift I never seemed to need them or had time to take them out while working. I would recommend looking into what your hospital has for online resources. I get a lot of use out of Lexicomp, Uptodate, and my hospitals internal procedures. Because these resources are often linked with our EMR it is much quicker to find the relevant info I need.

I would, however, recommend "Sheehy's Emergency Nursing" I have it at home and will often look things up that I saw on shift if I want a deeper understanding of the emergency care.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I agree, my intention isn't to use the book as a resource during shift hours, but as a resource I can keep in my locker or at home if I need it. Thanks.again

I loved the Sheehy’s book.
