Hi all, I am about to start a new job in an non-teaching ED, where I will have to do all/most wound care and splinting etc.
Are there any online tools I can use before I start my job?
Thanks!

At my last ED job, we had to do a splinting inservice and get checked off on a splint before we were expected to actually do them. Also, there were job aids attached to the splinting cart.
I just did a google search and fount a nice powerpoint on splinting in the ED. I bet you could find it too. Google is a beautiful thing!

Ask for a splinting inservice by an ortho doc or PA. I been splinting for 3 years now but I picked up some good techniques/ tips just last week from an inservice.

Splint like a pro - ercast.org
These videos will get you through the basics that you need to know.
I also recommend the ercast podcast which is made by the same guy who did the splinting vids. Very informative and entertaining.

Definitely ask if ORTHO can come down to teach you. They are the most scrupulous when you send a patient to them for follow-up and they will not hesitate to call and find out who did the splinting if it's all jacked up.
awesome, thank you
