SPC Nursing School Entry

Published

I am just sorta looking for encouragement I guess. I have a degree in Environmental Science, but have always thought of nursing & I have decided to finally go for it. So I applied as a student at SPC. As it stands I need A & P 1 & 2, Ethics, and Micro & I will be done with my Pre-Reqs. I am in the midst of an alternate satisfaction for my Humanities & Statistics credits because they didn't transfer correctly, but I have been assured that will be taken care of. For the GPA calculator I came up with a 3.8. I am not planning on applying to nursing school until I am finished with my Pre-Reqs. I am taking A & P 1 & Micro w/ the labs in the fall & then Ethics & A & P 2 in the Spring, which would have me applying for Fall 2012 Nursing School. Some gut wrenching feeling keeps telling me I won't get accepted. I guess I am just asking if it sounds like I have a chance. If I got a B in all of the classes that I don't have, I didn't want to be too confident. I would have a 3.5 GPA. I am just wondering what the GPA & Pre-Req completion of those of you that got in looks like in comparison & do I actually stand a chance of getting in when the time comes. I know I was reading that it seems to be less competitive in the Spring, is this so? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance

I'm currently in the program and the myth that everyone has a 4.0 is just that, a myth. Every semester is different but a rule of thumb would be a GPA of 3.7 (Using their calculator, they only look at pre-regs and support classes) and have all other coursework completed. If I've done my math correctly two A's and two B's puts you at a 3.7 which should give you pretty good odds. Good luck and you can do it.

i wouldnt take ap1 and micro at the same time..... it will be VERY difficult

Jessi - I really don't want to take them together, but I will get stuck taking Micro with either A&P 1 or 2 so I figured wth I'll just try to get it over with. They are the only two classes I'm taking this semester so hopefully that makes it a little better.

Dp - Thanks, I am really nervous about not getting in, but I'll give it my all in the mean time. How do you like it?

That looks like a pretty good GPA. You won't know until you apply :) Also, try programs like earn as you learn and largo med...that's how I got in!

I’ll be honest SPC wasn’t my first choice for school. I really wanted to do the accelerated BSN program at USF but wasn’t accepted into that program. With that being said I must say that I’m very please with SPC. Personally I’m a big fan of state schools as I think they deliver a terrific value. There are some good private institutions out there but some of the cost involved get are outrageous. Like everything SPC is what you make of it. Every program has it’s quirks but thus far I’ve been pleased with my instructors and think SPC does a great job with providing a good clinical experiences. Shoot for the A in your remaining classes and you’ll be able to form your own opinion. Good luck.

Morgan-do you know anything about Bayfront's EAYL? It sounds like you already have to be in the Program already? I'm trying to look at every angle. Just nervous as all get out way too far in advance lol.

And should I try to apply for next fall even if I would still be enrolled in A&P 2 and ethics at the time?

Are you thinking of BayCARE's EAYL? I didn't know BayFRONT has one? I got into Baycare's EAYL and going into level 4 in Aug. As for applying, it always looks better when you have more classes DONE rather than still enrolled, but you never know...

I believe A & P 2 is a prereq or coreq to get into mirco.
