hello my fellow pinoy nurses,

i took my CGFNS exam in HK and fortunately i passed... my problem is, the California board didn't release my license yet coz according to the pinoy agency who is processing my papers said that i have to have SSN for them to release my license.. is this true? also, she said there's a retrogression so the processing is slow... can anybody help me please?

Since your question is specific to working in the US and has nothing to do with working in PI, this thread has been moved to the International forum where it is requested that it be placed.

CA never has issued a license until the nurse is actually in the US and ready to begin work with a visa that will permit them to do so, and that means the green card in hand.

SSN# are never given out before you can legally work in the US under any circumstances. Please take the time to do some reading on this forum concerning the retrogression. If you are just starting the process now, you are looking at several years at the earliest before you have a chance to get a green card. Passing the NCLEX exam no longer guarantees the green card, nor the fact that you found an employer. The issue is that the entire US has been under the retrogression since October 31 of last year, and it is expected to last for several years. Currently, the US government is working on petitions from 2001/2002.

Any foreign nurse wishing to work in quite a few of the US states will not be issued a license until they are in the US, there is no requirement that you have a license in hand to start the process, but just that you have passed either the CGFNS exam, or the NCLEX-RN exam.

But just as a word of caution, almost all pinoy agencies will be selling you to the highest bidder, and they will be getting about $5 per hour of your pay, or $10,000 per year of your contract.

Suggest that you spend sometime reading on this forum, in particular the stickies at the top for information that you need to have.

I think what you meant was NCLEX. The CGFNS exam is taken in Manila and has been given there for years, plus the CGFNS exam is not a licensure exam.

I have the same problem with vigon. I passed the NCLEX and got a letter from the BON notifying me to submit my SSS number so that I can have my permanent license. I am still in the Philippines right now and haven't signed contracts for agencies yet.

Is it true that the processing for the H1B visa is not affected by Retrogression and therefore would allow to go to the US in a matter of months???? Please give me light on this.

Much has already been posted about Ca and SSN suggest a search. H1b is not routinely given for nurses and not many hospitals do this. H1b is not something that we recommend on here and if newly graduate then you will not qualify and in actual fact for H1b you need bachelor's

H1-B visas have their own set of requirements and have limits as well, even more strict than the green card.

Please take the time to do some reading on threads that address that specifically.
