Sliding scale protocol

does anyone have an example of a sliding scale insulin (novolin r) protocol? i didn't write it down this weekend after clinicals. :nono: i've never screwed up like that. i can't find it in my med-surg or pharamacology book.

If it's a protocol it would be part of a facility's policy. You'd have to get a copy out of their policy manual. Every doctor pretty much has their own idea of how to order sliding scale insulin and I've seen lots of variations of it. You might try posting on the General Nursing Discussion Forum and ask if someone can quote sliding scale insulin orders that they use at work off the top of their head for you. With luck, someone may have a printed copy of what their facility uses on their own clipboard or notebook they use at work that they can share with you.

i was afraid that would be the case. i'll just leave a note on my med-sheet and tell her i didn't write it down and hope that i don't get an unsatisfactory.

i presume this is for a careplan? if not, would the phrase "per md order" work?

danibanani. . .call over to the facility unit you were on and see if you can get the unit secretary, one of the nurses, the manager or the nurse educator to give you the policy over the phone. If that doesn't work, put on your uniform, take your student ID with you and show up in person and get it. That should do it.
