Sinus problems...who has had surgery?

I have suffered for many years with sinus problems. At one point about 20 years ago, I was scheduled for surgery. But, I was newly pregnant and it had to be canceled. Since then, I suffer on and off.

Well, I'm down with it again. I have no energy. My sinuses feel like they are falling off my face. I am having trouble sleeping. As in the past, if I go to a doctor now, he will prescribe an antibiotic and a nasal spray. I can't stand anything going up my nose!!!!!

I hear from some that the surgery worked miracles for them. Then I hear from others that it was the most horrific thing they have ever done and they would never do it again.

I'd like to hear from you. I know we are all different, just would like to see how you feel about it.

Thanks,

Very painful surgery, I now have sinus headaches almost daily.

I am more "stopped up" than before. I have to sleep with two pillows under my head to breathe, and then because of that I have neck and upper back pain.

It was a hard surgery to recover from, very painful.

I had septoplasty, and sinus "rotorooter"

I am told I need to have deep suctioning frequently (very painful)

if I want to get rid of my sinus headaches.

In my case it was a BIG mistake!

See, this is why I have not had it done. I have sinus problems all the time, almost everyday. I have heard more negatives than positives about the surgery. I am not sure if all of the pain would be worth it in the end.

I've spoken to several folks who've had the surgery. All have told me it was the worst mistake they've ever made and their sinus problems are worse now than before.

Thanks to those who have responded so far. I really appreciate it. I still hope to hear from others if they have had success with it.

I had a deviated septum which was causing me to have chronic sinusitis and had it repaired in 1968. At that time it was done as an in patient procedure and I had to stay in the hospital for a few days with my nose packed which was very uncomfortable. After the doctor removed the packing it was a new like a new lease on life. I could breathe in from both nostrils and I hardly ever have anymore sinus infections although I do need to take my antihistamines every day. For me the surgery was great. :)

Like the previous poster, I had a septorhinoplasty (in 1999) after 2 years of chronic sinus infections. Best decision I ever made. Surgery was not fun (it was surgery, after all)... I was off work for 3 days. My doc actually didn't pack my nose (used some sort of composite - much less painful/uncomfortable based on the stories I've heard - my pain tolerance is not THAT high :chuckle). Still take antihistamines for allergies, but have only had one sinus infection in the five years since my surgery. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
