Silly question

when a patient has trouble breathing do you elevate head of bed first or apply oxygen. I get confused on these kind of questions. Like when a fetus has a non-reassuring HR you position the mother on her left side before you apply oxygen according to Saunders. I really dislike these (position-oxygen) questions. Someone help me out here. Thanks in advance!!:specs:

Well think about it.. You need a MD order for O2 right. So that is not an independent action. Most of the time on NCLEX,they want to know what you will do, not the MD. So what is the first thing you can do to attempt to help your pt.

O2 is considered a drug and yes, you need an order for something as simple as that.

First of all there are no silly questions. Always elevate the head of the bed, while doing this give o2. I don't know about the last part of your question. It been a long time since I worked in OB-GYN. But first elevate the head of the bed.

since nclex is a perfect world, you always have the order(with oxygen) accordin to Kaplan ....you elevated then apply oxygen.
