Hi everybody. Need your opinion on something. I will be interviewing for a part time position as a university assistant in a nsg. dept. (helping with clinical placements, questions re program etc). It sounds like something I would really enjoy. Problem is it would be a big change from what I am doing now! I am in management, make good money but have become very bored/frustrated. I would leave my job tomorrow. The main issue is that there is a pretty good size paycut. When do you start working in something you actually enjoy vs financial reasons? This would be a good experience for me. I am in a MSN program to become a nursing instructor. What to do? What to do? Any ideas?

Can you afford the pay cut? If so, then I would do it.
I learned a long time ago that money was not sufficient to bring about happiness, especially if one is unhappy 8-12 hours per day at work. Hubby and I have both quit jobs that we were unhappy with because our combined income allowed us to do so. As long as you can pay the bills and save a little on the reduced salary, I would go for it. It may be beneficial for networking, especially when you complete your MSN program. Good luck!

Hello, gerinurse,:balloons:
Looks as if you have reached that point in your life where happiness and satisfaction take priority over money.
I wish you luck with your decision.

I have done exactly that, and the quality of life it resulted in was sooo worth giving up the extra income. It also allowed me the time to go back to school part time for my BSN, now thinking about staying on for my Masters
Hi everybody. I went for my interview today, it went well. I really want this job. The professor I met with was really nice, sort of questioned why I would want a job like this one b/c of the mgmt position I have now (more in re: to money). It turns out that I wouldn't be taking such a hit on my pay. I'd have to find some extra side work but that should be easy. The job is really flexible too, so I can continue with school. I hope I get it!! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Find what you like and go for it. Don't get stuck in something you don't prefer. Should of, could of, would of......I would definitely have made better decisions on my career if I new what I know now.
I wish you all the luck in the world, gerinurse. :balloons:

Hey think of it this way - the decrease in pay is just training for when you do teach:)
