Should I ask to switch or would I just be whining?

So as it stands right now I am #3 in my class...worked my booty off to get here and plan to stay here. Today our teacher assigned a group project, a 45 min lecture on Pharmacology. Project is worth a FULL letter grade. Problem is, I was put in a group of 6 with 4 of this 6 failing...Yes flat out F's in the class. Teacher said the group will be graded as a whole.(They issue drops in 2 weeks so I'm sure they will be gone but in the mean time my grade is toast). I think this is sooo unfair since these people obviously don't give two flying @*# about their grade. She also stated groups were computer generated so don't get mad at her, she didn't pick them.

Part of me wants to go to our teacher and plead my case but I have a feeling it will do no good. The only other option I can see at this point is just do all the work myself (without telling my group) then come day of the presentation if no one knows their stuff I can cover my butt. I am beyond mad at the thought of even doing this since I don't think it's fair they pass for doing nothing.

Project is due on Monday, today i asked if anyone wanted to get together tonight or tomorrow to start to split up the work...shocking...everyone had "plans".

I've been through this situation in other college courses. Honestly, most professors don't care what the situation is. I say just bite the bullet and do the work yourself just in case they don't. I tried to ask my professor if I could switch groups and she got mad at me for complaining, and said I should take a leadership role and make sure things get done. Hopefully they have a heart though, and don't bring you down with them :/

Good luck lol

I would let the teacher know in writing, like via email, that your group members aren't willing to even meet and that 4 are failing.

I'd ask the teacher if she will allow 1 person to do the talking and the other turned in graded portions and if she doesn't track that or doesn't care I'd do it all myself.

Make sure you get a grading rubric, also.

I would also do all work myself. Then I'd do all the work in a way that the group members feel comfy with.

Think about it: it would be worse if the slackers insisted on turning in crappy work.

HTH!

I'd split the project into 6 assignments to equally distribute the work.

I'd do my section. Set clear deadline/due dates... and when it came time to present the project?

Let those who would...flounder in front of the audience.

I've done it. The difference would be that we were graded as individuals.

In this situation, my grade would have to take the hit. I sure as hell wouldn't do the entire project by myself. No one would be reaping the benefits of my hard work. Sorry.

That's unreasonable and idiotic. Forcing people to work together which will only result in ONE to TWO person doing all the work isn't a teaching moment. Your instructor is lazy.

Well I looked at the grades of those that were failing and only one person would actually benefit from me doing the work and raise their grade to just over passing. All the others are so far in the hole that even if they got an A from me doing the work, they would still fail.

I decided to just bite the bullet and do the work. I talked to the other girl in the group who is also passing and we decided to just spilt the work between the two of us and call it a day. If they do the work then great, if not well atleast we won't look like idiots.

Tried again to get the group together after school.. not only could no one meet, two of the people didn't even know what chapter we were assigned 0_o.

I would definitely go to the instructor and let her know that you two did all the work... That way when it's presented, they will know that your group wasn't a group and she/he just might dock them for it....I really wouldn't care what they thought...

Yes I don't think it is fair that they get credit for procrastination. I mean how do you not know what chapter your are on I mean why are you even there, wasted space. I think you should make your instructor aware that you and the other student did all the work.
