I'm a nurse from California and was thinking of going back to school for CRNA but was really having a hard time trying to get someone to shadow, emailed different hospitals but as of this moment, they're not accepting nurses to shadow they said for insurance purposes. Im just wondering how is it like in a different state with regards to shadowing. is it pretty easy to shadow a crna in another state?

It sounds like you might be getting the brush off by people who don't want a hassle. They don't know you. You need a personal "in" somewhere, a person who can set it up for you. It's definitely not like it was years ago when someone could just show up one morning and hang out in the OR for the day.
Do you know any ICU people friendly with anesthesia? Could your manager ask around for you? You could just show up at your hospital's anesthesia office with some donuts and ask.

It is doubtful you are going to find a hospital that will just let people that don't work for them come into the OR. You need to approach a CRNA where you work to see if you can shadow them.

I was gonna ask if you currently worked somewhere. I would think that the easiest place to shadow would be your own hospital. That's what I did when I was shadowed and I didn't have any issues. I'm on the east coast though so I don't know anything about the climate in California.

I would call the surgery department where you work. I shadowed at the hospital I work at and it was easy.
Yes, Im currently working at Stanford, however theyre not using CRNA's here at the moment and according to some schools that I inquired, they preferred you to shadow a CRNA rather than an anesthesiologist, thats why im having a hard time. Thanks for taking the time to respond
Contact your state branch of the AANA and see if they can help you find someone to shadow.
