SF State Nursing Program, Spring 2017

Hello all! I am new to this forum and had a lot of questions about the application process for nursing school, specifically SF state's program.

I'm planning on applying to their Spring 2017 program, but have heard mixed reviews about it. Is there anyone currently in their nursing program that can shed any light on it? I've heard that it's very difficult to get classes, making it almost impossible to finish the program in the advertised 2 years (takes more like 3 years). I've also heard that due to the high demand of classes and lack of availability, students end up transferring out.

My current GPA is 3.57 and I scored a 81.3% on the TEAS. I also work as a Medical Assistant for 4 years now, ranging in different types of specialties/clinics. My grades aren't as competitive as what I would like it to be, but I'm hoping that my work experience makes up for it. Should I retake my TEAS test to try and get a higher score?

    I heard that number by word of mouth and from the rejection email for Fall 2016 said only 20 students admitted. Im going off of that. Your source is much more reliable if you asked a faculty directly. In which case I am curious what answer you got?

    It was actually a couple of different numbers, either 24 or 40 admissions, depending on a budgeting issue their nursing program is working to resolve. I would assume at this point they have definitive answer.

    Maybe we can assume for now it is gonna be in the ballpark of the 20s. I have heard of the budget cuts and low nclex pass rates, so a smaller group of students would probably be a solution that they might implement

    i also just emailed them last night and was told 20-30. I also asked how many were interviewed and she said "A COUPLE HUNDRED".....

    I guess I didn't waste it.... I can use that experience as a learning tool.... Just being cynical bc I'm so stressed out about this process I really want to get in and so does everyone else

I really hope it is coming out this coming week, but I was told it would be at the end of November when I went in for my interview. I'm also really anxious for it.

    yup I got that info from the email invitation. What are ur stats? I'm thinking that although I nailed my interview question I won't get in. My guess is that prospective students who had not as strong applications were invited to interview to see how their answers would compare to those who had really strong applications which would allow sfsu to see if the interview process is even worth it for them. Or I could be overthinking it... Lol

    did u apply last fall too?
