Sequential compression/lymphedema pumps

Does anyone know if the air inflating the extremity covers gets hot over time? I have a patient who fell asleep over night with her compression device in use and now has a 14.5 X 4.5 burn-like lesion to her shin? The zipper on the leg covers is midline and this would be right over the shin. Thanks.

I have had patient complain about their legs feeling really warm. I check and agree with them, but NEVER have I had a patient that received burns from them. That is scary!

I have heard of pts getting stage 1 ulcers (unblanchable redness) from them

Ours do not get that warm. If I saw something like that in one of our pts, I would suspect friction injury, not heat.
