i got a letter from senator barbara boxer about this bill:
"thank you for contacting me to express your support for s.147, the native hawaiian government reorganization act, introduced by senator akaka (d-hi). i appreciate hearing from you, and i share your support for this important legislation.
s.147 would establish a governing body for all native hawaiians that would be recognized by both the state and federal governments. this bipartisan legislation would put into place a process for native hawaiians and the state and federal governments to address matters such as the transfer of lands and natural resources.
i am saddened to report that on june 8, 2006, a minority of 41 senators voted to block consideration of s.147 for the remainder of the 109 th congressional session. be assured that if this or similar legislation again comes before the senate, i will give it my strong support.
thank you again for sharing your comments with me. please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about matters that are of importance to you.

again, i realize this a hawaiian issue, not technically a native american issue, but they face analogous issues. i hope you do not mind me posting this.

Thanks prmenrs for posting the letter from Senator Barbara Boxer on Legislation S.147. Just wish the US government would do the same thing for the NAI of the continental 48 states and Alaska. Please keep us posted on further details.
