Hi,
So I will be meeting with 1199 for possible jobs but before that I have to take a test. I'm thinking its probably pharm with some math, but i'm not too sure.
I was just told there would be a test.
I was hoping if anyone on here would know what is usually on the exam and what I should focus my studying on?
Checking in, looks like no one has taken it before

So you're meeting with the union and not a hospital? (Im assuming you're talking about the nurses union..)
Yes they require a test first before job placement

It must be the employer who is giving the test as a union would not be giving prospective employees math or pharmacology tests.
Hmm that is strange but probably right. I don't have any info as to who the employer is until I pass. So I guess review pharm math and scenarios ?

As a nurse you will be tested yearly on your units requirements. For example: As an ICU nurse I would be tested about critical care drugs, document basic EKG monitoring with interventions. These tests are not usually in depth analysis but it will make sure you know how to convert drugs for dosages.
It would be HIGHLY unusual that the Union is the one testing...the Joint Commission and the facility wants testing and proof of competency. Some facilities will also ask common blood transfusion standards of care. I think that you need to investigate what hospital you went to about a job. What jobs have you applied for in the last couple of months? Where do you have to go to take the test?
My suggestions...study calculations. Know some "common" meds like Lasix, Lanoxin, insulin/ long short etc. Don't let this make you anxious. ALL HOSPITALS will test you...it's what they do. Keep it pretty simple and breathe. Find out what kind of facility it is that you are testing.....Long Term Acute care, Acute care, SNF? Look up their mission statement so you can mold your answers for what they desire.
A word of caution....be careful what you post. The site is anonymous but it is very easy to figure out if you know someone. While we use different names...this site can be seen by the general public and will index with google. Some facilities feel if someone gave you what is exactly on the test would be considered cheating/unprofessional. ((HUGS))
Good Luck!
Hi so in NYC we have job assistance which 1199 provides I do not have any job offer yet. I have to take a test first and then they give employment help. They help cna and other healthcare workers the same way.
Thank you for the advice on what to study. That's what I was thinking like some common drugs and dosage maybe scenarios.
