Second Career Advice

Published

Hi,

Short and sweet...starting my CNA classes in the fall to prepare me for the LPN-RN Bridge. Currently taking my pre-req's for the Fall 2010 nursing program I hope to get into (the community college I'm going to only takes application for the program for the fall, in the spring). I work from home 3 out of 5 days at a technology company as an accountant. Married, 37 with 2 kids. Question? Is there a quicker way to reach my goal as a RN? (don't look I will complete a AA in Nursing until 2012 and then BSN maybe 2014). Is there anyone else out there that made nursing a second career option? How long did it take you and how did you complete this goal?

Thanks all, Love the site and all the interesting forums I've read!:yeah:

Do you already have a bachelor's degree in accounting or some other subject? If so, an accelerated BSN program might be for you. Most of them are 15 months long and at the end you have a BSN and can take the NCLEX, but you are only eligible if you have a bachelor's degree in something. I am in an accelerated program now, and I love it! I wouldn't want to do it any other way, I hate wasting time, haha! It does move very quickly but everyone is in the same boat and there are mothers and people who are still working in my program. The other thing about these programs is that they do require a lot of pre-requisites before you can start, but it sounds like you are already getting those done. Look at schools in your area, this type of program is not too difficult to find, there are at least 4 that I know of in my area. Good luck!

No bachelor degree? ( Just worked my way up in the company, praise God) I do have a few Technical classes, but they are not transferrable.... I wish I could find a Accelerated Program here!!! (i'm in Illinois). I will just start on my prereq and hopefully through further research, find a program suitable for me. Yes I hate wasting time! Thanks for your Advice, very much appreciated!
