Student Nurses over 35 and Second Career????
THANK GOD! I hope that we all can keep in touch! I'm sorry, but what is a LVN? I start my CNA in Aug. I will be enrolling for my pre-req on 3/2 and starting in May. The only problem I have is that im still trying to hold on to my current job as an accountant. I work from home, so studying and going to classes at night should not be a problem. I'm afraid that when and if I quite my job that I will not find a good CNA position that will help pay the bills... My husband is very support, praise God! I hope that you all will keep in touch! We are blessed to have this second chance to pursue our dreams and we need encouragement from others in our same postion to help ease the blow. I'm glad I started this thread!

Second Career Advice
No bachelor degree? ( Just worked my way up in the company, praise God) I do have a few Technical classes, but they are not transferrable.... I wish I could find a Accelerated Program here!!! (i'm in Illinois). I will just start on my prereq and hopefully through further research, find a program suitable for me. Yes I hate wasting time! Thanks for your Advice, very much appreciated!

Second Career Anyone?
this is very true! Hybrid? What about the clinicals? They do have a Hybrid program... the CNA will be only for the weekend as well as the CNA classes at night. The Nursing Classes are all during the day, so I will definitely see how that goes. I've been at my job for 12 years so yes I definitely don't want to jeopordize that if at all possible. Thank You sooo much for your advice :)

Second Career Anyone?
Yeah thats what I thought! If I don't get accepted in the Spring, I will go the AA applied Science route and the take extra classes for the pre-req to BSN Nursing Program (2 years) at a Private College. I would go the private College route now, but its tooo expensive. I need to save at that, and was hoping to get a second job with the CNA and my experience to help save for the program. I will have to quite my job as an accountant to go to Nursing School if and when I get accepted,... Do you think I could get a good CNA job at a hospital as a clerk, etc? (I know CNA's only make about $9hr.) That way I can earn my experience too. I have been wanting to be a nurse for a while! Now that I've gotten an opportunity (financially) and have a strong family system, I have to take this chance now. I'm just worried that because of my age and the economy it may not be a good idea:bugeyes:

Second Career Advice
Hi, Short and sweet...starting my CNA classes in the fall to prepare me for the LPN-RN Bridge. Currently taking my pre-req's for the Fall 2010 nursing program I hope to get into (the community college I'm going to only takes application for the program for the fall, in the spring). I work from home 3 out of 5 days at a technology company as an accountant. Married, 37 with 2 kids. Question? Is there a quicker way to reach my goal as a RN? (don't look I will complete a AA in Nursing until 2012 and then BSN maybe 2014). Is there anyone else out there that made nursing a second career option? How long did it take you and how did you complete this goal? Thanks all, Love the site and all the interesting forums I've read! LoveFromAbove, Val (Illinois)

i'm starting in the fall! I also feel to do as much research as possible! Also have a strong career path written down. (Do you want to be a nurse, how long, what other fields would you like to get into? I find this important because you can take additional certifications at colleges to add to your nursing career. just a thought! Good lucK:dncgbby:!

Student Nurses over 35 and Second Career????
Hi everyone, new to the site! I love it! I did most of my research on the internet and found that this site was very informational and gave alot of life experience that I needed to help make this bold decision! Okay, I'm 37 2 kids (age 2 and 13) and a devoted husband. I have worked for a very popular technology company for 14yrs! I've been a customer service supervisor, Buyer and now i'm a Accountant. Needless to say-I HATE IT. With the economy the way it is, I thank God that I have a good job now but I don't want to mis this opportunity... I love encouraging and working with others, i'm very compassionate with it comes to people and making them better. I have no experience in the Health Care field and i'm very anxious about starting school. My plan: CNA night classes to began in fall 2009. Summer 09 I will take my math, biology, chem (during the evenign) classes for the Nursing pre-req. Spring 10 apply for the LPN program at community college then go into the LPN to RN bridge. I know I will have to eventaully quick my very well paying job at some point (probably when I'm accepted into the Nursing program) and that will be very challenging I expect. But that is why I want to get my CNA so at least I will have some kind of income coming in (75% less income than what i have now). Is it realistic to believe that with my skilss that I may be able to work 2 jobs to regain my current income? I currently also work from home 3 days a week, so studying won't be a probably. Is there any of you that have similuar situations? I would love your feedback! Thank you all !!!!
