I am a new LPN who works in a LTC facilty. My question is what is my scope of practice in the state of VA? I have looked repeatedly on the board home page and can not seem to locate this. Can anyone please help? I just need to know what I can and cant do. I know that working in the LTC that LPNS can do more then a LPN in the nursing home, but I need to know the specifics. Thank you!!!

Check out this link for some guidance documents regarding your scope of practice. There are some specific skills listed and also some decision trees for determining whether or not the skill is within your scope of practice. I don't think you'll find a place where each possible skill is spelled out with a yes or no. Some of it requires judgment.

I am a RN in Virginia-

Can't do blood

Can't do some IV push meds-depends on facility/unit, though.

Can't do INITIAL admissions assessment, like, on direct admits

18 VAC 90-20-440.1 (f) requires that the tasks to be delegated must have a predictable outcome and if performed improperly the consequences are minimal and not life-threatening.
