So how do you find these jobs? I must say I've never seen one posted in my area... or on Monster and the other sites. Do you just have to cold call the superintendants?

You might try subbing in a local district first to gain some connections and set yourself up for potential openings. Usually you can find substitute application info on the district website's HR section.
Sub school nurse pay tends to be ridiculously low, but there are big benefits as well: 1) connections/references and 2) the chance to try things out.
