The school nurse job here has opened up. The Principal called me today to tell me that there is only one other applicant. I had expressed interest in this a year and a half ago and apparently the woman has indeed retired.
I currently work part time in a small ICU 40 minutes from home. The school is a mile and a half from my home. The hours are perfect since I still have children in school. I could stay on one weekend a month at my hospital and also pick up shifts.
Any school nurses out there?

I've been school nursing for 16 years. I love it. It is a dream job !
Great hours, holidays, summers off. Great if you have a family.
But the pay is not great. Check out the allnurses school nurse forum and you will find lots of info. on that. If money is not your big issue, then take the job. You will love it ! Best Wishes to You !

Hey Jlsrn!! I just got a school nurse job too!! I start the day after labor day. I'm so excited about the position (and, of course, the summer's off). Pay was a major issue with me though, I'm pretty sure I'll have to do something on the side to make up a large chunk of it. Keep us posted!! :)
I would either keep one weekend a month at my current job, or stay on per diem at my current job. The school nurse position is about 1/2 time I've been told. I can supplement my income at the hospital I'm working at now by filling in.

I'm a school nurse and I love my job. Check out some of the posts on the school nurse forum and you'll see more about what we do.
I looked for a school nursing section, can you post a link?

See if that gets you there.
