I have been accepted into the nursing program I was trying to get into. I am so thrilled to be joining a workforce of people that I truly admire and I look forward to every second of it.

I have been looking up different scholarships and I have been running into a deadline problem. I found out I was accepted on May 30th. I just had my financial aid meeting on the 13th. I know am running into the problem of not being able to find a scholarship that has a deadline I can make.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this?

Some background on me. I am 27 years old. I was married into the military and while deployed he found someone else to occupy his time. On top of being verbally and mentally abusive before he left for Afghanistan he then dissolved our marriage while he was still on deployment. I moved home with my parents and battled depression and alcoholism.

I am proud to say that I entered therapy for 2 years and have made a full recovery. I now am happy and actually love myself compared to what I used to think of me. I have a wonderful job as a personnel coordinator for a home care company. I wonderful man in my life that supports everything I do and am attempting to accomplish. I beat alcoholism and no longer drink. It has been a long road and a lot of pain but I have come through everything beautifully and feel back to my old self again.

I have made great strides in my life to get to where I am. I am hoping I can find some sort of financial assistance but I am unsure of what opportunities are available. I am unsure if what I have gone through could be a possible opportunity for scholarship or how to go about any of it really. Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The financial aid office at your school should have a big book full of scholarships you can apply to, hopefully the deadlines will work for you.

Other than that, Stafford loans and PLUS loans.

Thank you. They didn't really offer scholarship counseling... I wanted to apply to some before my appointment with the Financial Aid counselor. But I am just having a tough time finding anything. Thank you for your response though! No one seems to like me too much on here.

As the previous poster mentioned, I would check in with your FinAid office as they'll have a better idea of what scholarships are still available. Make sure they're aware of your unique situation as well. Beating addiction is no easy task, but there are scholarships out there awarded to people who have overcome addictions. (And probably for divorced students, etc.) Perhaps they can help you look into those. Worst comes to worse, you can take out loans, just make sure to keep the dream alive. :specs:

And why do you think people don't like you on these boards? I'm sure that's not the case. Most likely, like me, they want to help but they're just not sure which direction to point you in. :specs: In any case, good luck to you!
