SCC Fall 2014

Hi, I'm super excited. I've got accepted to Maricopa CC nursing program @ SCC for fall 2014. I'm just curious what the first block is like. Is there anyone who has gone through SCC program? What can I do now to prepare myself? What are the clinicials like? What hospital does SCC do their clinicials? I work at two jobs now and I plan on working part time once I start the program.

Not quite. Its one day of lecture, one day of lab, and one day of clinical.

I'm starting Block 1 at SCC next week. Did anyone on here take NUR 104AB, the optional nursing review? Was it worth it? I didn't realize until today at orientation that it is mostly online with only a few in class dates.

Hey,

I took the Nursing Review and it helped! You meet once a month and the rest is on Canvas.... the homework is really supplemental to the nursing program and they help you study for NCLEX. I also took the math review and am happy I took both extra classes.

Good luck! Read my prev. post about block 2 for more info on block 1.

I worked full time during nursing school so I couldn't do any of the review classes. I did just fine without them, but some other students were scared so they took the classes. The review class seemed to have some NCLEX style questions on CANVAS along with rationales. TBH, I found a lot of the same info on my Saunders NCLEX book.

The math seemed to be a total waste of time in my opinion. The math is the same over and over and over. If you can do basic algebra then you'll be fine. I NEVER did the dimensional analysis because it took so long and there were too many chances for error, but if you are comfortable with it then KEEP doing it that way.

You need to find a way that works for you. My math ALWAYS ended up with the same equation of ORDER/CONCENTRATION.

An example is the order says 5mg and the concentration is 10mg per mL This means I set it up 5/10 =0.5mL.

It may take a few steps to get to this point, but as long as my final equation was ORDER/CONCENTRATION it always worked out. Plus, it's the same math block after block with only little additions.

I wish you the best !!!!
