Hey everyone:)

Does anyone work @ Salisbury VA?? Know anyone that does? Ever sought care there? Know anyone that has??

I'd love to hear from anyone that could enlighten me with their experiences!!

Thanks:)

It has won several awards, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for your response:)

I'd be interested in what and when. Sometimes stuff on paper is all just fluff.

Someone in my class did clinicals there -- a couple yrs back -- @ the time, there were 4 beds to a room, no bathroom in the room, etc...

So, I'm looking for some updated accurate info:) :)

Thanks again!!

I have not worked there, but I've taught clinical there within the last couple years. Yes, the buildings are old and outdated. However, that doesn't mean they're not providing up to date care. Everyone (staff) I encountered there seemed to enjoy working there and be happy with her/his job. They were uniformly friendly and welcoming of my students and me, and went out of their way to ensure that the students had the best clinical experience they could offer. The veterans/clients I talked to were all v. positive about the care they received there and how they were treated by staff.

I remember there was some sort of brouhaha in the Charlotte paper last summer about some suspicious deaths (related to inadequate/inappropriate care, not like murders, or anything!) at the medical center, and the VA system responded vigorously with big changes in the top management of the hospital, and other, systems changes to make sure the situation wouldn't occur again. I'm not swearing to that; it's just what I recall off the top of my head.

THANKS so much for your response:) Extremely helpful! And, you ARE on target about that in the Charlotte paper. My friend that worked there KNEW the lady that was responsible..& had worked w/her! Ugh! But, great they made the necessary changes:)

THANKS again!!!!

My mother worked there for years in ICU and my current nursing insructor works there currently.

Both have had nothing horrible to say about the place.

I worked there as a Student Nurse Tech in the MSICU. The staff was excellent and the care given there was great; the docs were easy to work with. I almost took a job after graduation, but they were very slow to start the hiring/interview process (they started in May or June and by that time I had taken a job in Winston Salem), and the orientation did not offer much in the way of classes.

Hey WolfPack:)

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate that:)

Where are you in W-S? That's where I am:) I imagine you're at one of "THE TWO HOSPITALS?" ~~ lol ~~ I say it like that just for the simple fact that they are SO HUGE that people think they are the ONLY two places for nurses to work, lol....I'd love to hear about wherever you work, if you like it, working environment, etc:)

Thanks again!!!

Yes, I work for "the Baptist" in one of the adult medical ICUs. I love it; the staff are highly supportive and willing to teach. My orientation was fantastic, plenty of time (~12 weeks) with stimulationg classes. The pace of work is fast and challenging, but I have never felt alone. I really cant say enough about the unit.

You can send me a PM if you want to hear more.

I tried to email/PM you -- BUT -- ya know how when you click on someone's name?? and you are supposed to get those options? When I click on yours -- I get nothing:( ...I clicked on some others to be sure it wasn't on my end...and those worked just fine...for some reason when I click on your name no options come up at all:( Hmph??
