Hello!
I know I am early starting this but I have my eye on applying for the spring 2020 semester and thought I’d start this to help each other through the application process! Please feel free to ask questions, (I know I have many!) about any part of the application process.
Right now I am a current Sierra College student and my main concern is acquiring the points to even have a chance (aren’t we all?)
If everything goes according to plan, I’ll apply to transfer with one course in progress (micro) with
a science GPA 4.0
Nursing GPA 3.917
Adjusted Nursing GPA 4.0
and TEAS ??? (Taking them in August for first time) need a very high score to get the points needed ?
The university applications are due Aug 1-Aug 31 with supplemental nursing applications Sept. 1-Oct. 1
I am having trouble navigating the optional points because they seem to have changed from the semesters past that coordinate with the available applicant pool statistics. It looks like there are only 88 points available total now (40-gpa 30-teas 18-optional) where as in the past, there were 100+ depending on the semester.
So I’m wondering, do I have a shot scraping by with 61/88 points if the points cutoff in the most recent available stats had the lowest admitted at 79 points but had 100 points available to earn from. Does that make sense?
Unfortunately, I don’t think there are many of the “optional points” I will qualify for. I am looking into hospital volunteering but they want a 1 year commitment and if I begin the program in January, I can’t make the commitment to volunteer for a year.
Lastly, I have an appointment with my counselor in June (at Sierra) to ask all of these same questions. Sac State also says to attend a BSN group advising session but there are none yet scheduled for the near future.
anyways, if there is anyone else out there neurotic like me and picking apart the website for information while I wait to take TEAs, get a BSN group session at Sac, and wait to see my counselor again, I’d love to hear from you!

I really think that the only way to increase your points is to do phenomenally well on your TEAS test. Your GPA looks great already. Since the total amount of points dropped from 100 to 80, I feel that chances of getting in at 61/80 seems good. Statistically in the past, they were mid-70's and up, but at 100 points max. Have you tried inputting your grades into their electronic points calculator? You're right above cut off of 60. The calculator will let you know if you are eligible or not, based on your pre req grades and your TEAS. This way, you can calculate what TEAS score you want to hit, in order to remain competitive.
I really hope that your counselor is very informative with details. I had the opportunity to meet with a four year university counselor at my community college, and they provided information that I don't think I received from any of the counselors from the community college I attended. CSUS Spring 2020 is one of the programs that I do plan to apply this summer, although I'm from the Bay Area. I plan to apply at CSUEB and SFstate as well. Best of luck!

Thank you! I know I need a 90 minimum on teas with my gpa as it is. I can apply in progress with my last class I need, so the healthy gpa is safe at this point. I just need to conquer the teas! I figure if I don’t get in anywhere, I can take 2 semesters of ASL then get the points for language and try again. I’m tied down to the area, so I’ll just keep at it til I get in somewhere!

I am also applying to Sacramento State Spring 2020! So far I have:
3.5 Science GPA
3.76 Nursing GPA
4.0 Adjusted GPA
+10 optional criteria points
But I haven't taken my TEAS yet but it's scheduled for August and I've been studying nonstop. It's hard to calculate my real chance of getting in until that has been taken though. Best of luck to you!

I would try looking at smaller clinical practices. I ran into the same issues with larger hospitals wanting a year long commitment but I asked around and found a smaller practice that is letting me volunteer, hope this helps ?
University applications opened today for Spring 2020 transfer students. I just submitted mine!
Now I just have to do super well on the TEAS later this month and then submit a supplemental application for the BSN program once they open (Sept.1)
Fingers Crossed for everyone applying! Good Luck!

Hey guys!
I am also planning on applying to sac state for spring 2020. The last two semesters the initial cut off was 70, so I'm really hoping it doesn't increase this semester.
My current stats are:
GPA: 4.0
TEAS: 88.0
Still looking into the optional criteria to see what I can get.
Good luck to everyone applying ?

Hi All!
I applied for Fall 2019 and didn't get in so I'm really hoping to get in for Spring 2020.
The cut off for waitlist was 67 last semester and I only had 66. I'm trying to get 4 more points.
My Stats:
40 points
Optional Criteria: Language, Environmental, First gen no repeated courses
13 points
My current teas score is 85.3 (13 points), but I didn't get in with that so I'm going to try to retake it in September and hopefully get a few points higher.
Good luck to everyone retaking the teas, I hope we all get in! This is my third retake and final chance to get into Sac so fingers crossed! I'm kind of hoping spring is less competitive than fall.

If you don't mind me asking, how long and how did you study for the teas? Especially the science portion. Your score is so good! 88 is my goal.
