Rude Nurse

Just graduated from an ASN program. Have been an aide for a couple years now. I'm polite with all the nurses. Most of the RNs are very compassionate and answer any questions I have.

About half of the LPNs are rude as **** to me, rolling their eyes and making rude comments.

Is this "Title Loyalty?" LPNs vs. CNAs. vs. RNs. We can't work as a team for a common goal, there has to be vindictiveness and spite?

I thought that the N in LPN meant that you had compassion for all and were professional with everyone, including CNAs.

What is actually going on here? Is anyone facing a similar situation?

I'm not sure where people get the idea that being a nurse means you have endless compassion for all. That simply isn't true. Nurses are people, too. Some of them are kind and compassionate and some of them aren't. If about half of the LPNs are rude to you, you might want to ask yourself what you have contributed to those interactions. Are you less than respectful of the LPNs? Did you get off to a bad start with them? If you meet a jerk first thing in the morning, you've met a jerk. If half of the people you meet are jerks, it could be that the jerk is you.

You know, I can understand how an LVN that may have been practicing for 10+ years can get a little bent out of shape when a nurse fresh out of school with no prior medical experience technically "oversees" them. Not implying that's the case here, but it does happen.

Maybe these rude LPNs are reflecting back how they were treated when they were CNAs and encountered rude nurses. Like how they say many sexually abused children grow up to become abusers themselves. No rule says you have to continue this pattern. Break the circle of rude behavior by treating others with your best. Pleasantness can be just as infectious as ugliness.
