It was a rough night in the ER. I am still amazed at how I go through phases of feeling super knowledgable and confident followed by feelings of huh? and complete inadequacy. This is after being a nurse for almost 20 years! Does anyone else go through this?

Yes, those "huh" moments happen to me frequently; but as I don't and never will know everything I sort of expect them to happen! The REALLY scary nurses I've worked with are the ones who think they know it all and could never need to learn anything more!

sure-I also have moments when I think " Man, I need to get the nurse" then realize that's me....That's nursing-the highest of the highs followed by crashing lows-and plenty of chances to make a fool of yourself.

ER is like driving on ice. Everyhthing's all fine & good then you're sliding towards a tree.

Shake it off. It's the nature of the beast.
You're not alone. No one has ever quite seen it all.
I'm a little behind you @ 17 years and sure, still a lot of "huh" moments.
Evaluate, reevaluate, talk about it with others, come to an agreement on what to do next time. Keep driving on and don't let it get to you. You're too important doing what you do.
