Good evening everyone,
I am reaching out to see if any of our seasoned RNFAs can help me navigate on a solo practice. I am a new RNFA within the NY Long Island area. I acquired my NPI, I am registered within the CAQH database, carry malpractice, have a current biller, and am set up with an Ortho practice and surgery center approved. I am currently an out of network provider and trying to contract within network with some health plans. NY just passed a bill to recognize reimbursement from private providers for RNfAs, but I feel as though the networks are not up to date. ANY ADVISE. Is there anyone within my area with any info? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
RR
Alright so I will answer my inquiry and share with my fellow RNs. I just recieved my first claim for a lap chole. Very nice indeed. Key points to consider is to acquire what I mentioned on my post and assure your patients are aware of your participation to avoid "the no surprise billing". I believe with NY now recognizing the scope of the RNFA further we will be seen more on the forefront. Hope this helps

Hi RR,
I came across your old post and feel like I’m in similar situation like you was few years back. I’m starting out as independent RNFA but can’t find anyone in NY that is practicing independent to get an idea, so kind of going in blind. I know it’s been a few years since you posted but I’m being hopeful somehow it alerts you. How is the practice going for you? Is it worth it in terms of reimbursement etc, any tips?
thanks,
AP

Good afternoon AP,
Thank you for reaching out. I recently was out of practice with regards to my RNFA to pursue my FNP. I am returning back now that I am done with my academic commitment. So things are good. With regards to your inquiry, the best I can suggest (as I am about to return to do) is make sure you have an established relationship with some surgeons. I have a well established relationship within an orthopedic group. This group is vested in a surgi center in which I was able to have a surgeon champion me for credentialing purposes at the site. With that being said it opened the opportunity to work alongside other services such as general and GYN. As far as billing I reached out to a local surgical billing group in Long Island, NY. Should you need I would more than happy to help. As far as worth it, absolutely. If your focus is strictly to assist and your able to maintain continuity through your relations, again absolutely. Hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out should you need any further info.
Best,
Thank you so much for your response, So I’m second week into this, I’m using a well established biller out of Texas, I’ll see how it works. I also actually just started FNP program and depending on how this independent assist goes I may just continue when done and bill Medicare as well. I have a general surgeon I’m working with at a local hospital mainly, but I’m seeing possible other opportunities as well, my only concern is that I won’t see reimbursement until a few months so fingers crossed.
Are you able share contact info of the biller in NY? Thanks
