There are several things you can do to prepare
You can go to a review course. See your staff education/development nurse to find out where/when these are. They are HIGHLY recommended and many who go through these PASS the first time. Unfortunately, these classes are dependent on a certain number attending, so if they dont' get enough people, they cancel them. This has been MY problem for 2 years now.
You can review text books on inpatient OB nursing. You need good, comprehensive books like the Inpatient OB Nursing Core Curriculum or another such text. I will link you to the one I have now below:
(This is the one my colleagues used last year and passed the first time):

Hope I have helped you! I plan to take the test myself in April.
Almost forgot the site to visit for info on certification:

for BSN-holders:

hope I was able to help you!

i've had mine since 1998. i took an excelent 2 day review course which was a wonderful review of systems. it was great for those of us who concentrate on l&d. i think the people who concentrate in nursery were disappointed.
good luck.

I took a review course thru professional education center...it was fabulous. I also read over the AWHONN core curriculum book for OB. The test is harder than I thought it would be. Its like taking boards all over again. It covers all of OB...antepartal, intrapartal and postpartal...so bone up on breastfeeding and all of that too. It is pretty comprehensive. I took it back when it was paper and pencil, now you can do it on computer.
Good luck to you

i have mine. there are review courses you can take but unfortunately they can be very expensive.... i dont know if your hosp pays for it but mine doesnt. i didnt take the courses just for that reason. my clin spec had several books with tons of ob related test questions in it, and i spent many night shifts going over them with my coworkers. really i think your clinical experience and knowledge is what will help you pass. there's no way to be prepared for some of the questions they throw out there!! good luck to you... it is a difficult exam but definitely passable!
