Pros and Cons i dont think there would be any cons but i just want to know if any rns would continue to np or are you guys happy with where you are now. Even if it means giving up a 20k increase salary

Becoming a NP is a more competitive process than getting into nursing school. I think I will be satisfied getting my ADN and later my BSN. If I was 25 years younger and didn't have a family, maybe my goals would be a little different. I do believe that more and more NPs will be needed in the future and will be able to take the place of physicians in many cases. I'm not at all disappointed to give up the extra $20G.
i see but lets say you were 25 and didnt have a family what would your goals be

I have been hearing a lot of talk about, in the future, the NP requiring a DNS, anyone else hearing this?

Disagree...big time.
By 2015 you will need a DSN its 3 yrs of schooling and 1 yr residency. But we dont know if it will come to affect it might happen in 2020 who knows
If I was 25 again : ) I might still be too immature to go into nursing in the first place and wouldn't have the funds. But let me imagine what it would have been like if I had the drive and the maturity at the age of 25. I think I would have gone to medical school and maybe into orthopedic surgery. It's always fun to look back and wonder. Realistically, it's all these years that I've done other things that caused me to want to go into nursing. Maybe once my kids are grown, my goals will change again. I think I would prefer teaching and training new nurses.
PrincessBride, do you disagree with the competitive nature of becoming a NP?

I'm just about 20, and my overall goal in nursing is to become an NP.
I might lean toward PA because of the doctorate program becoming an NP
