RN Two Year Contract?

Specialties Case Management

Hello Everyone!

My name is Jennifer and I have been a nurse for about six months. During this time I have worked at two separate long-term skilled nursing facilities and have disliked it to say the least! So even though I feel that I was good at it.....its not my area! I recently was hired at a home health agency full time as a case manager.......after one day of training they decided that they were asking too much of me and decided that it should be part-time...not full-time. It has since then changed to ..."We are willing to train you for three weeks, you will start out part-time with the potential to be full-time, and you have to sign a two-year contract. I have tried to ask what my days working will be, how much I will make and they have no answers for me to make an informed decision. I am making a list of questions that I would like to have answered before I sign or decline. Is there anyone out there that has ever heard of this before.....or anyone who can think of some good questions to ask?

Thank you in advance!

You should not sign a two year contract with any employer. That is an outrageous request. I don't know if it would hold up in court, though, if you should decide to leave before two years are up.

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

Two year contracts are red-flags for New Grads! Basically, employers that need a two year commitment are saying that they have a high turnover rate. In any case, usually to break the contract you have to pay back bonuses and other incentives that you received to sign-on. Read the contract and speak to a lawyer prior to signing anything!

By the way, I think you are on the wrong forum. Although Home Health nurses may hold the title Case Managers, they are not the same type of Case Managers as those on this forum. Try going to the following forum to see if you can get more help: Home Health Nursing
