I almost got kicked out for a misdemeanor. They said that it would be close to impossible to place me in clinical sites if it wasn't expunged. So I had it expunged before the school ran the background check. Make sure to check with your school and to expunge your misdemeanor asap. What state are you from btw?

While a program may or may not admit you, the first place you should check with is the state BON. Completing school with a criminal record does not guarantee that the BON will allow you to become licensed- check with them first before shelling out money on an education.

Another possibility to consider is that you may be admitted to a program but the clinical site(s) will decide that they do not want you working there.

I agree with the other posters. Getting into a program is the easy part. Many schools are happy to take your money as long as you meet the requirements and time frames for the convictions. If your state board will give you any insight that would be great but don't count on in. Many states simply say they evaluate the applications on an individual basis and they won't tell you anything until you apply. As sticky as the situation may be for you, you will never be a nurse if you don't try. Best of luck to you.
