RN moving to FL

Good luck. I hear certain facilities are on a hiring freeze due to a glut of nurses and the current economic conditions.

Sorry I dont have information about FL but I am willing to relocate in order to find employment. I am in the phoenix arizona area and I am a recent RN graduate. Please let me know what you have discovered about FL, I may be relocating with you! :chuckle

Hi everyone! I am planning to move to Florida (Orlando, specifically) and am curious what everyones' opinions are regarding which hospitals are decent/not, average wages for a recent graduate, and how to transfer my license. I've tried to research the license issue but can't seem to find any specific info. Any advice/info you guys feel like sending my way I would definitely appreciate it!

Basically your two choices area Florida Hospital or ORMC (changed name to Orlando Health (?). Those are the two biggies in the Central Florida area.

Florida Hospital has campuses all over depending whether you live you can find a campus. The largest one is downtown.

I think the wages are fare/comparable to other hospitals in the area and the downtown campus has just opened a brand new wing-The Tower. . they definately need nurses. It is the only hospital I have ever worked at (2 years) so I can't really compare but they have their good and bad points. I think a Grad nurse starts right around $21.00 an hour. If you call HR I'm sure they can also help you with the license transfer. Good luck.

Actually you should call ahead because, as I posted on another thread, there is a HUGE hiring freeze in MOST area hospitals, for new and recent grads. There are several nursing schools in a 45 minute radius of Orlando and the area has been flooded the last few years. A lot of us that are getting ready to graduate are facing the same issues, it is very disheartening. When we started there was a shortage, now not so much. I know of 4 July grads from UCF in Orlando, that were near top of their class, STILL can't find a job....

There is no hiring freeze that I am aware of at Florida Hospital. . . in fact the last I heard they can't get enough nurses to fill the new Tower. They have rooms available but no nurses to work.

I would call HR if you want to know for sure and not just rely on speculation.

I think she is talking about Orlando health. We have another thread speaking about the freeze currently going on over there. Florida hospital has had an orientation going on every week for the last month to fill the new tower ( which is called the Ginsberb tower). As of right now they only have some of cardiac and ED open in that tower but as they open up more floor of course they will need more employees. I would just take the advice of others and give them a call to see if they will be hiring new grads when they are hiring again because from what I saw there were very few new grads coming in ( but that might have been because they were hiring for ED). Anyway good luck with your search.

Obtaining a FL license isn't hard. Google florida nursing licenses and you'll find the info. I even went through a 3rd party company. They did all the leg work. I just paid them a fee - which I think was about $125. Good luck.

Im interested about Florida Hospital. Im a new grad RN. Do you know from self experience or from friends anything about ICU/CCU in Florida Hospital... Is it open during this time and is it good to work there? And How about the new opening that you said, Ginsberg Tower, how is the Cardiac? please, any information would be highly appreciated!!!
