RN looking for an opportunity, but.

Hello, nurses!

I am a BSN trained nurse starting a master's program this fall. I have a year and a half of experience under my belt. I am currently a school nurse. Since I graduated, I have had zero luck with getting into labor/delivery or postpartum. I've applied to about 30 of these jobs with no callbacks since 2 months before graduation up until now. I did my senior preceptorship in labor and delivery, but the manager made it quite clear that they don't hire new grads. I also aced my OB class in nursing school with an A+ (I loved it, that's why). I've heard of RNs with no experience or new grads getting hired into L&D, PP, but I haven't had that happen. What is something I can do to break in? I want this so very badly. I study after my work days about all things L&D. I even read my textbook! I used to have an AWHONN student membership, but I haven't spent the money to get it back because as of right now, it is not relevant to my current field of nursing. I plan on getting my CBE and lactation counseling certification, but I haven't done this due to investing in my master's.

I guess I'm looking to make myself more marketable. How do I do that? I have no hospital experience except a short stint at the beginning of my nursing career.

Mistaken entry.

My advice would be Network, LinkedIn is a big one. Reach out to managers. Solidify your resume and targeted cover letter for each job. Know about ATS and use JobScan to help you easily add those keywords to your resume, cover letter and application. Get additional certs. For Mom Baby, BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, Cert Lactation Specialist - so you will be Baby Friendly. If you are in an oversaturated market, you must learn how to play the game. PM me for more advice. I have loads. The struggle is very real.

Also remember these units are very coveted. You must fit in with the team they already have. Volunteer, join associations related to Mom Baby or where you know you will meet professionals currently in your dream job.
