RN and Excelsior

Published

I am trying to gather information for a student.......here is what the maryland board of nursing says about excelsior:"

Effective July 25, 2006, all Excelsior College students who are enrolled in the nursing program before July 25, 2006 and who graduate before December 31, 2007 may apply for the NCLEX examination or, if already licensed by another state, for endorsement."

what this student wants to do is go finish excelsior college, then go get her license in delaware or pennsylvania (work full time for about a year in hospitals in delaware)....,...then come back to maryland and "endorse" the license.....MD board of nursing is very strict about excelsior.....do u think they can deny endorsement when its time?

thanks

Delaware and Maryland are in the nursing compact so if you live in maryland you can not get a rn license in delaware. Trust me i tried not knowing. I am a 2010 graduate of excelsior ASN . I lived in New Jersey at the time and was licensed there as rn ,i also have pa rn license . Got married moved to MD husband works here thought i could work in delaware 35 minutes away but found out the terrible news my degree and all that work is garbage here. I have to commute at least 1 hour to work as rn. I have been commuting a year an hour and fourty minutes one way to work as rn in jersey and i have a 8 month old. Maryland was nice enough to give me a lpn license. Im not ready to give up my degree after less than two years. I really wish i went to a different program but worked full time which made it difficult . Maryland says the clinicals are not comparable at excelsior to their programs. ;-(

I'm curious...what if you take your ASN from Excelsior and bridge to a BSN through a different school? Would that BSN degree trump the ASN degree and allow you to work anywhere?

That came up in another thread somewhere here...and regrettably, the answer to that question is No. Most bridge programs have little to no clinical component, so there's still an unaddressed deficiency.

So, i just have a quick question have you been licensed in n.j. For 1 year? And did Md Bon offer any possible solutions? I was told after 1000 hrs of preceptorship I could apply for my Md license.
