RN Coder/Auditor

Seriously considering taking an online certified RN Coder/Auditor course. Has anyone taken it? Is this a needed, lucrative field? Any advice?

Thanks

Hi Lost In America,

I'm a CPC. There are specialties that you can certify in but I haven't done so as yet. When you take a standard course you will still have to take terminology and some anatomy. Its a good review.

Glenmar, thank you so much for your quick reply. Do you still like you job?

Yes, it can get a bit tedious if you have a lot of charts to do but overall its very interesting and you can't beat working at home.

Does your company offer benefits???????????? Thanks in advance for your reply...:nurse::redbeathe:nurse:

No. You work as an independent contractor. I think they may now offer some full time positions but whether or not they offer any benefits, I'm not sure.

Thank you!!

Is this a course anyone can take? I graduate from Nursing school in May, and the job market being what it is, and my hubby requires us to move a lot for his work, this may be something that could work for me! DO you think I could do coding even as a new grad RN for a part time gig?

Glenmar can you check your pm?

thanks!

I've been reading all the posts here,My question is this:

Is medical Billing and Coding the same as what you're all talking about here?Community College

around my area have this course.

I am also considering taking this course as being at home appeals me for so many reasons.

I hope to hear any idea and will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

WOW :)

I am so happy I came across this post. I been looking for something I could do from home, my mom lives with me and I do not like leaving her at home alone. Maybe this will be the answer to my prayers. I am going to get busy researching training opitions. I realize this is not going an overnight job, but hopefully I can get the training done quickly.

Thanks for sharing!! :D

Hi All- So happy I came across this site. Have been sitting here now for about 3 hours researching rn-coding and the more I read (I've read ALL of your comments) and am just about convinced to do this. I have been a traveler for about 15 years and want to work from home, but need full time work. You all have been sooooooo helpful-thank you all so much. By the way, the books needed for the 1 week course by "RN-Coder" are much cheaper from Barnes and Noble than Ingenix.com or AMAPress .com from rn-code site-save ~$50 and s&h free, to your door! Hope this helps. Only 14 more msgs to go-thanks.

I thought about joining clinical coding solutions but the biggest concern for me is they pay you as an independent contractor. The taxes are high for independent contractors, and currently this company is paying an average of $30 per hour.

So when you take your taxes into account, I wonder if it's really worth it.
