  1. Happy New Year, things are going well. I have a ton to learn, there is stress but it is so different than the hospital. Thanks for all the replys and encouragement. Keep looking up.
  2. Wow this is fabulous, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I am anxious I realize it will just take some time, I am sure the links will help, anything to make things easier. I believe this position will be rewarding, and again thanks for your words of encouragement and wisdom. If you think of anything else please share, thanks again. :)
  3. Sounds all good I do not start till the 21st. So excited.
  4. Congratulations!!!! New journeys so nice to share. Looking forward to it as well. This site is awesome for support.
  5. Prayers for you, this is extremely harsh. Welcome to nursing, sad but true. I know several new nurses this has happened too, what a rough way to start. Believe when I say you will find something else better, could be tough to find another position for awhile. Look in LTC, psych. Best wishes and prayers for you. Rough profession it really is, there are places that are kind and truly teach. Again I am sorry for this incident.
  6. Hello folks. Just was hired at the local health department, my role will be the immunization nurse. I am thrilled and look forward to weekends and holidays with my family. I been working in Psych/med unit in the hospital so this will be so different. Any advice is welcome, sure I will be posting as questions come up. There is a long probation period a year, I assume this is the norm? Pay is less, however the commute is so much closer. I praise Jesus for this job I believe I will bloom in the position. So much to learn. Keep looking up.
  7. WOW :) I am so happy I came across this post. I been looking for something I could do from home, my mom lives with me and I do not like leaving her at home alone. Maybe this will be the answer to my prayers. I am going to get busy researching training opitions. I realize this is not going an overnight job, but hopefully I can get the training done quickly. Thanks for sharing!!
  8. Boy I can relate. I have worked for five different places in one year, trying to find that fit. AT every single place it is all about money, making the dollar bill. Unfortunately, the patients suffers and the nurse. Every day you have to worry about your lossing your license, and God help you if you complain. I pray every day to get through it for myself and the patients. I thank God for giving me the grace to make it another day. I do enjoy my place of employment now, but we contantly work short staffed. It is unsafe, but in my experience it is everywhere and will not get better. I been thinking of going back to school for something else. Many of my fellow nursing class is having the same situation. You are not alone. :redbeathe
  9. Hello Folks, I am working in a mental health hospital, we do crisis care. I am a new RN, May 2009, and had a bumpy start with several jobs until this facility called. Been there about 5 months, I love my job, they even made me a charge. However it is still stressful. The real work for most of the patients starts on the outside. I just had my evaluation it was good. My supervisor wants me to improve on my verbal reporting skills. I dont want to open my mouth an sound like I don't know what I am talking about. I understand explaining mood and affect. I just need to feel confident and deliver confident statements in the meetings. My assessment of the patients needs the correct spin. Sometimes I feel like the doctors and therapist don't consider what the nurses are saying. I need to advocate for the patient and nurses on the unit. I want to be assertive, not passive or aggressive. I feel like I am missing something. I look and listen to others reports and use what I like and put my own touches on the rest. But some of the assessements read stuff like, Calm cooperative Mood depressed affect appropriate, interacting well with staff and peers. At times stuff like religously preoccupied. I realize the more exposure I have with different disorders the better it will become. But in the meantime I need more when I go into these meetings. However often there is not more. Any suggestions for improving these areas would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. pandora44, Jules A Thanks for the reply. I started on Thursday and it is such a slower pace then the med-surg I am used too. I came home exhausted though. I am defiantly out of my element, the lady I orientated with said she felt the same way. On Friday I worked with children and actually watched a take down very dramatic, I was told it's worse with children then adults. I didn't run for the hills I am gonna give this speciality a chance, even though the meds and everything is foreign to me. Pandora44, I have read over the stickies and I will probably go ahead and buy that book, I would like to feel better prepared for the position and whats to come. People where I am working say they learn new things everyday. There are not two people who are alike, makes sense to me. Thanks again!!:loveya:
  11. Hello, I been reading the thread, for resources for my new job. I am so excited to start but a bit nervous, because psych is so different, been reading up on disorders to get my assessement skills up to par, but I feel unprepared. I wonder if you all had any suggestions, like books or advice. Looking up
  12. caliotter3, Thanks for your expertise! I like the strategy you shared with me. I am trying not to stress over the big test.
  13. Well thank goodness nursing school is over. Now the challenge of the NCLEX. :icon_roll I am not taking Kaplain....I do have a Kaplain book to review along with the CD. My school is doing a 3 day review by Hesi I think. I have Saunders and am planning to go it alone. Is this enough??????????????? I already have anxiety:uhoh3: If anyone has suggestions for the plan of attack I would appreciate the input.
  14. I just finished my nursing school program and now face the NCLEX. I have read so many threads and am trying to begin to prepare for the exam. I am very disappointed about Suzannes' plan being unavailable. I would appreciate any advice that would help me prepare for the NCLEX. I have used allnurses board as a resource the last 2 years I appreciate all the support and your expertise. Praying hard, Kindgo
