I live in the Louisville area and have been doing research on returning for my BSN. I graduated from JCC years ago and was wondering about any personal experience any one has had returning to school in this area. I have read the forums which have been very helpful but I still have a couple questions and wanted to hear about some personal experiences. Did anyone find they spent most of there time getting prereq's? Would anyone recommend a specific school? I think I have decided on the online route. I have been looking into UofL, McKendree, and Indiana Wesleyan. Indaina Wesleyan looking to be most cost effective. I have shyed away from distance learning, as in, another state distance. I have also been searching for scholorships. I noticed KBN has a scholorship but still need to contact them to see if I would qualify with already having my ADN. Thanks in advance for input you can share.

McKendree is great- I got my BSN with them. You take 1 class at a time (they last 4-6 weeks each), on Wednesdays or Saturdays. You can take more than 1 at a time, if you want, by taking some of their online courses, too. Their faculty is wonderful. You'll write lots of papers, and do lots of group projects & powerpoint presentations there. I can't say enough good things about them, really. You'll be in class with other working nurses, and you will be treated like a professional adult.
The scholarship you are referring to is the Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund. Apps for 2009 will be posted after Jan. 1, and you have until June 1 to apply. It's $3000 you can spend on anything, if you win the award. Some are given based on financial need, and some are given for grades. I have received this scholarship before, and it was very helpful.
There are also state awards that you automatically get as a KY student. Here is some more info on that: http://www.kheaa.com/website/kheaa/kyres?main=2
You should be able to get the CAP grant, and the KTG grant. These, in addition to student loan $ will cover your tuition, and then some- even if you go to a private institution, like McKendree.
As for U of L, I currently go there for grad school. They actually have an online RN-BSN, if you're interested in that. I'm not sure if their trad RN-BSN is only 1 day a week, but it's a great school, too. They have some scholarships, etc. available for undergrad students as well.
Good luck to you!

rn to bsn in washington stae? I live north of Seattle and am looking for something close. Also anyone done a geriatric certification?
You may want to post your question in the WA Nurses forum. You probably won't find the help you need here in the KY forum.
WOW, thank you so much BBFRN for sharing your experience and knowledge. Are you returning for graduate studies for a particular goal? Congrats on your recent graduation.
I'm in the BSN-PhD program. Goal: nursing ed & research.
